Jean Claude and Robin wish to give something back to the Argentine Tango community for the joy and fulfillment the dance has brought them by providing aspiring dancers/students the chance to learn and practice and meet others without any cost to the student/dancer.

Starting this Sunday, May 11th, Jean Claude and Robin will be giving free Argentine Tango lessons and a guided/critiqued practica from 1PM to 4PM to the first 5 women and 5 men to respond to this email. For those that respond and are not among the first 10 respondents Robin and Jean Claude may in future weeks accommodate more than 10 people if they feel the interactive learning/practice experience does not become too diluted for all involved.

Jean Claude will start with some warmup/dance exercise/stretching and then proceed with some Salon fundamentals, technique and figures, some Milonguero fundamentals, technique and figures, and then Neo-tango fundamentals, technique and figures. The level of the class will be designed to meet the needs of the students attending based on the feedback received relative to my questions below. Jean Claude and Robin welcome your questions during class and hope to make the class an interactive experience.

Following the lesson there will be a guided/critiqued practica for students who wish guidance and critique and simply practice for those that do not.

If you definitely plan to attend please leave your first and last name, phone number and email address with Ray Wilson at raywilson1@aol.com or 561-361-7566 (please leave a voice message) along with whether you consider yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced Argentine Tango dancer and what areas of the dance you would like to work on - technique, fundamentals, specific figures, etc.

The first 5 women and 5 men to respond will receive back a confirmation email or phone call. Others will be notified if one of the first 10 cancels due to emergency.

To ease administrative time/logistics on this Sunday, we will meet up as a group at the parking lot of Boston Market (1802 West Hillsboro Boulevard, Deerfield Beach, 33442) on the southwest corner of Hillsboro Boulevard and Military Trail from where we will proceed to the nearby community ballroom. Please be at the Boston Market parking lot by no later than 12:45 - if you are running late please call Jean Claude at 786-853-7510.

For those coming from the South, please take I-95 North and exit at #42B, Hillsboro Boulevard West, and then continue west for approximately 0.8/1.0 mile(s) at which time you should turn left (south) onto Military Trail and then take your first right into the Boston Market parking lot.

For those coming from the North, please take I-95 South and exit at # 42B, Hillsboro Boulevard West, and then continue west for approximately 0.8/1.0 mile(s)  at which time you should turn left (south) onto Military Trail and then take your first right into the Boston Market parking lot.

We hope you will also join Jean Claude and Robin Friday evenings at Shall We Dance starting at 7:30PM for a 2 hour lesson, followed by a 4 Star chef prepared and served healthy and tasty dinner and then a milonga - total cost $15.

Now, for those whose native language is English, Spanish or French, receive personal instruction at Century Village in your native language from Jean Claude, who is fluent in each, and Friday evening at Shall We Dance receive the same, as well as, for the growing South Florida Chinese Argentine Tango community, personal instruction from Jean Claude's dance partner, Robin Ren in either English or Chinese.

Jean Claude was introduced to Argentine Tango 40 years ago and was trained in Rosario, Argentina by the late Orlando Paiva, universally considered by the Argentine Tango masters (Juan Carlos Copes and others) as the model of elegance in the Argentine Tango Dance. To quote the mesmerized Argentine Tango aficionado, Robert Duvall, as he sat watching Paiva (who portrayed himself) dance in the critically acclaimed Buenos Aires filmed movie, 'Assassination Tango': 'Elegante!'. Jean Claude received the title of Professor of Tango Salon from the Paiva Tango Academy - see diploma above.

Argentine Tango as taught at Shall We Dance by Jean Claude is best for those that wish to learn how to dance at a milonga.

Jean Claude teaches the students how to walk, turn, and navigate the floor and that is lacking in the Argentine Tango instructional community because people lack the patience and they wish to go from a very simple basic step to a very advanced one and most teachers adapt to accommodate them. The result is that when people are at a milonga they are still struggling - stuck and lost on the floor, not being able to either improvise or adapt to the changing traffic and space. The advice is very simple, go back to the basics until you get them perfect, then every other element of the tango will fit.  Keep practicing your frame, salon ,milonguero, vals, or neo - your balance will improve, plus listen to the most important part of the dance, the beat - put that all together and do tango exercises to improve your basic movements.
